Summary

Witness the epic final chapter of the Skywalker saga with the official novelization of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, including expanded scenes and additional content not seen in theaters!

The Resistance has been reborn。 But although Rey and her fellow heroes are back in the fight, the war against the First Order, now led by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, is far from over。 Just as the spark of rebellion is rekindling, a mysterious signal broadcasts throughout the galaxy, with a chilling message: Emperor Palpatine, long thought defeated and destroyed, is back from the dead。

Has the ancient Lord of the Sith truly returned? Kylo Ren cuts a swath of destruction across the stars, determined to discover any challenge to his control over the First Order and his destiny to rule over the galaxy—and crush it completely。 Meanwhile, to discover the truth, Rey, Finn, Poe, and the Resistance must embark on the most perilous adventure they have ever faced。

Featuring all-new scenes adapted from never-before-seen material, deleted scenes, and input from the filmmakers, the story that began in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and continued in Star Wars: The Last Jedi reaches an astounding conclusion。

Why does this book deserve two stars? Even though ghost Yoda used actual lightning to ignite a book?I'm giving one extra star only because of some emotional scenes with Kylo。 Adam Driver really did carry the Sequels on his shoulders。That said, even he couldn't carry this one。Look, I don't blame the author for what she had to work with, but this was a bit of a mess。The writing wasn't horrible, but it was simple and off-putting。 This being the first novelisation I've read since Matt Stover's Revenge Of The Sith didn't do it any favours either, since the beautiful but easy writing style was so engaging there。The rest of my problems with this book are the same as with the movie so I'm not going to go into too much detail。 (Especially the wayfinder。 A deux ex machina like never seen before)。ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I'm going in full rant mode with ALL of the details。*SPOILERS AHEAD*Poor Finn has been completely sidelined。 So Leia's Skywalker legacy has been handed to Rey, her Solo legacy to Ben and her Organa legacy to Poe, but what about Finn? Well, who cares? He's given ANOTHER love interest instead! Why?Also Poe isn't a politician so I'm not sure what the Organa legacy is supposed to mean for him。 AND HE'S NOW A SPACE DRUG DEALER。 Woo, Disney! Very original, a Latino spice runner (See also: the Martez sisters)。Rose is absent most of the book。 She had like one line (?) in the movie, so not surprising, but I feel terrible for the actress。 She went through all that abuse at the hands of racist fanboys and what do the story writers do? THEY LISTEN TO THEM!I actually like Hux。 He was hilarious, and his dynamic with Kylo reminded me a bit of Obi-Wan with Anakin。Rey continues to be written terribly - again not at all the fault of the author。 She's just boring。 Also she's now Palpatine's granddaughter。 And She Is All The Jedi。 Why did they have to make the only female lead of the movie so bland? Even her backstory and parents are forgotten; brought up then never mentioned again。。Palpatine's son is actually a failed clone? Okay that actually makes more sense but why is this never mentioned in the movie? Also how do we know there aren't any other clones waiting to take over?Han talking to Ben was heartbreaking。 Rey Skywalker? Really? Not that she should've been a Palpatine but imagine how powerful it'd be if she'd said 'Just Rey' again! I'm cool with the concept of found family but she knew Luke for like two days/weeks and they didn't have a great relationship。 Leia, her mentor, hated her legacy and never used the surname Skywalker。 Rey Solo or Rey Organa would be more fitting。But hey, it's the Skywalker saga so we can't have all the Skywalkers dead。Leia *sniff* oh, Leia。 So she had less than a year of Jedi training then quit because she sensed darkness in her kid。 I'm too exhausted to point out how ridiculous this is。Luke appears briefly。 He contradicts his previously grumpy self by handing Rey her lightsaber。 Death seems to have done him some good。And KYLO IS DEAD。 Like why? Can we have redemption without death for once? Instead of blatantly copying Vader's arc? Rey, Ben and Finn starting their new Jedi Academy would be awesome。Come at me, fangirls, but:KYLO AND REY HAVE NO ROMANTIC CHEMISTRY WHATSOEVER。 When they first met, Kylo killed his father in front of her。 He the proceeds to torture her。 Later on he force-hacks into her brain and invades her privacy。 #RelationshipGoalsTHIS IS SO TOXIC。 "But he's got such a tragic past!" NO! That's not an excuse for abusive behaviour。 I sincerely hope that anyone who finds this romantic does not enter a relationship in the near future。Also they're a decade apart! Kylo was 24 when his uncle tried to kill him in his sleep。 That's a full grown adult (and older than Anakin when he became Vader)。 Now he's thirty! While Rey is nineteen!!! She's a young innocent teenager! Ew!NO FORCE GHOST ANAKIN IN HIS OWN SAGA? WHY??? He says a couple of lines to Rey but can't speak to his own grandson? There's a weird scene at the end where Rey visits the Lars homestead and senses Luke (it was his home after all), but also somehow senses Anakin! Canonically, Anakin visited the Lars Homestead ONCE (in Ep。 2)。 Are you telling me Rey can sense someone in a place they appeared in briefly fifty years ago?*End of rant and spoilers*_______________________________________________Goodbye Reylos don't come for me please。 。。。more

As most novelisations you'll probably only like it if you liked the film。 I have mixed feelings on the film but this book helps to address some of the issues。 The story works so much better as a book as it has more time to breath。 The novel also has some much needed quiet moments; moments of self reflection for the characters。 These are particularly important for Leia and Lando as they were underused in the film version。 Kylo Ren is superb as ever and this novel in particular highlights that he As most novelisations you'll probably only like it if you liked the film。 I have mixed feelings on the film but this book helps to address some of the issues。 The story works so much better as a book as it has more time to breath。 The novel also has some much needed quiet moments; moments of self reflection for the characters。 These are particularly important for Leia and Lando as they were underused in the film version。 Kylo Ren is superb as ever and this novel in particular highlights that he is more than a crying child, he has so much depth。 Rey is of course the star of the show and this novel helps to cement her character as one of the greats, despite certain revelations about her lineage。。。 Emperor Palpatine, however is criminally underused here。 He should have much more present in the story and merely acts as a plot device。 This is a shame as there is so much potential here, and we see glimpses of a great Sith story that continues the legacy of other books。 I'd give this book a go if you're willing to accept the story we've been given。 。。。more

Beware: this is another one in the 'books I read whilst having migraines' anthology, so do not expect me to pay close attention to the quality。 I enjoyed it for what it was, a quick and easy read。 I was really hoping for some more dyad explanation as well as it being involved more in this novel as it lacked in the movie, however that hope fell a little flat I think。 O well, now I can at least say I finished the saga in this format too。 Beware: this is another one in the 'books I read whilst having migraines' anthology, so do not expect me to pay close attention to the quality。 I enjoyed it for what it was, a quick and easy read。 I was really hoping for some more dyad explanation as well as it being involved more in this novel as it lacked in the movie, however that hope fell a little flat I think。 O well, now I can at least say I finished the saga in this format too。 。。。more

This book ended me。I thought I'd feel worse, but I just feel empty。I cried over this book 4 times。I've cried over the movie every time we watched it, plus three other times。So overall, I have cried over The Rise of Skywalker at least 11 times, probably more。I literally wrote fanfiction to change the ending, in hopes that it would allow me to move on, but of course it didn't, or I wouldn't be here。Now, despite my severe emotional trauma, which I was expecting, I had a great time with this。I belie This book ended me。I thought I'd feel worse, but I just feel empty。I cried over this book 4 times。I've cried over the movie every time we watched it, plus three other times。So overall, I have cried over The Rise of Skywalker at least 11 times, probably more。I literally wrote fanfiction to change the ending, in hopes that it would allow me to move on, but of course it didn't, or I wouldn't be here。Now, despite my severe emotional trauma, which I was expecting, I had a great time with this。I believe my words in my first update were "I am begging this book to tear my emotional stability to shreds。"And it did。Like the movies, I enjoyed this book more than TLJ。 Turns out, the lack of pointless subplots really makes things more enjoyable。There were still points where I wanted to just get through some of the resistance parts, but that's only because I had 5 minutes until the start of school and I desperately wanted to cry over Reylo。I seriously do not have the ability to write a useful criticism of this book, or even to do my usual rambling。I love Reylo。 It's probably my favourite ship ever。I liked how Finn, Rey, and Poe spent the majority of this book together, rather than having them all separate like in TLJ。Obviously I love Kylo Ren/Ben Solo's storyline。 Especially with the extra commentary in the book, I thought that was funny。There's a whole war going on and this man just wants to find his girlfriend。And someone please give this poor child a hug。I liked how there was more explanation about how Palpatine returned。 I can overlook plot holes like that, but it's nice to have an explanation。And all the sequel haters would say that the explanation doesn't matter and Palpatine's return is ridiculous, but I don't care。This is not a safe space for sequel haters。Anyways。I love this trilogy。I love this book。And I love Reylo。5/5 Ben Solo deserved better。 。。。more

This concludes my reading of the novelization of the sequel trilogy。 I was especially curious what I'd think of this one。 My view of the film was that it was something of a mess, trying to wrap up a trilogy that hadn't properly planned out its story arc from the start, as well as trying to make up for what was a divisive middle film。Ultimately, this book didn't "fix" my problems with the film, but it did smooth some over, a little more subtlety than the previous books。 It did offer some enhanced This concludes my reading of the novelization of the sequel trilogy。 I was especially curious what I'd think of this one。 My view of the film was that it was something of a mess, trying to wrap up a trilogy that hadn't properly planned out its story arc from the start, as well as trying to make up for what was a divisive middle film。Ultimately, this book didn't "fix" my problems with the film, but it did smooth some over, a little more subtlety than the previous books。 It did offer some enhanced backstory to attempt to make it fit better with the previous two installments。 And it added scenes to enrich some of the newer characters。Overall, I'd definitely rate this better than the film it adapts, but would slot it in between the novelization of Last Jedi and Force Awakens in terms of quality。 A quick, entertaining read。 。。。more

Cheesy and childish。 A very young adult novelization that made the movie less enjoyable than before。 Mentioning a plot hole is not the same as filling it or giving a backstory/explanation。 Wish they would go back to the maturity of the old books。 Was really hoping this would be as rewarding as the ROTS novelization and found it a complete letdown。
